SUMMER PARTY - Another Success Story!   (14th June 2010)

Burstow Parish Council’s Fourth Summer Party was a resounding success, having received the assistance of Horley Fire Brigade!  On the morning of Monday 7th we had no screen, having been let down by our supplier, but with our usual tenacity, we sourced an LED Screen, so that we could show the England v USA match – but we needed ballast for the Cradle holding the screen stable! That was to be in the form of 4000 litres of water, a problem in Smallfield as the pressure is not brilliant! Along to the rescue came Horley Fire Brigade and in next to no time all was secure enabling the event to go ahead! We are all very grateful – thank you!  We would also like to thank all those who helped out throughout the day, working really hard to make the event run smoothly and for everyone to have a really good day.

The screen proved to be a complete asset, being visible all day and enabling the sponsors’ logos to be shown to all present!  A plus!

We had record number of visitors, the daytime event providing the free rides on the giant inflatable games, the masses of stalls, the tea tent and arena entertainment provided by the Oakwood School Steel Band, Whitesides School of Dancing, Oriel High School and a polished performance by Wayne of Circus Malabaristas – who had held two Circus Workshops earlier in the afternoon.  An enterprising Marshal ran a sandcastle competition and provided the winners with a ‘crepe’ from one of the fantastic food outlets – amazingly all the entrants won!.  The cake tent was very popular, particularly as they were home made.  The Jolly Bar provided the alternative refreshment, and, as the day moved on, the atmosphere of all who waited for the game and involved themselves in the many activities, was one of enjoyment and community – thus achieving the original aim of the Annual Smallfield Parties.
