| Smallfield Summer Party Success! (17th June 2009) |
Smallfield Summer Party Success! Smallfield rocked to the sound of the Blunter Brothers on Saturday night as the third consecutive Smallfield Summer Party came to an end. Over 2,500 people attended the fun packed day in the sunshine to enjoy the variety of entertainment and the numerous inflatable games and stalls. In the afternoon visitors were entertained by a great performances from Oriel High School with a soul band and a Samba band. This was followed by a number of graceful dances from the Whiteside School of Dance where children from all ages showed how hard they had been working on their exam pieces. Throughout the day the children (and some adults) enjoyed the various inflatable games that were FREE all day to all visitors. The giant inflatable slide, bouncy castle and 100ft obstacle course are always favourites but this year there was the added attraction of Human Canon Ball and Pole Joust! For most families this makes the day different and special as there is no constant demand for more money and they can just sit and enjoy watching their children being entertained. There was also a circus entertainer with equipment for the children to learn and play with. So much of this is made possible by the kind sponsorship of local businesses, this year supplied by H2O Developments, Norman Group, Carter Thorne Carpets and Woodlands Garage. The local Co-op also provided many supplies for the tea and coffee tent. With the many stalls, a beer tent, provided by The Jolly Farmer in Horne, and the tea and coffee tent there were many attractions for the grown ups too. Looking around during the day it was obvious that it truly represented a good cross section of all ages in the community and that there was something for everyone to enjoy. The atmosphere was fantastic all day and brought the whole community together. The evening entertainment was kicked off by Ghost Writer, a great young local band from Smallfield and Horley, who played a mix of their own songs and some covers. The big finale was the Blunter Brothers who have a very wide following and are a brilliant 10 piece funk band. They had everyone, including PC Baker, dancing to the sounds of greats such as James Brown, The Average White band and the Crusaders. What a great finish to a great day! |
